Youth Center Planning Party at the Hansen’s

This is a friendly reminder that there will be a ~~planning~~ party at the Hansen’s tomorrow (Friday) night at 6PM. Everyone with kids involved with the Youth Center at St. John’s (middle school and high school) are invited to come. If you don’t have kids involved with the Youth Center, but just want to see what the Hansen’s house looks like clean, you are invited to come too. Bring a finger food or desert. We will discuss what kinds of activities we would like to see happen in the coming months… but mainly we just wanted families to have a chance to get to know each other a little bit better…

Bring the whole family. We hope to see you there!

The Youth Center had our first high school lock-in of 2012. The night consisted of games, movies, food, and a mid-night trip to the bowling alley. Everyone had a great time. We have the middle school lock-in coming up on January 15 (for all youth from 6th through 8th grade). Hope you can join us and remember to invite your friends!

The Youth Center Christmas party was a smashing success! A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who made it possible (and to our new Director of Christian Education, Brandon). Everyone had a great time. If you were not able to make it to the party we have both a high school and a middle school Lock-in coming up. The Lock-ins are always a blast so make plans to attend and invite your friends. Several of you brought friends to the Christmas party and it made it all the more fun!

High School Lock-in (9th to 12th Grade) – Wednesday January 4-5, 2012 at St. John’s

Middle School Lock-in (6th to 8th Grade) – Sunday January 15-16, 2012 at St. John’s

We’ve added a few photos from the Christmas party to this blog… but we have about a 150 more. The photos will be displayed on the wall in the Youth Center on Sunday January 8th so be sure and check them out. We will also be choosing some photos to put in the High School and Middle School photo albums.

Middle School Youth Connection for this coming Sunday (December 18, 2011) has been cancelled

Sadly the “Baughman Style" Sloppy Joe Feast this Sunday has been cancelled, but will be rescheduled at a future date. We can’t post such bad news, however, without some good… make that GREAT news!

St. John’s Youth Center Christmas Party (Dec 23, 2011 6:30-9:00PM)

The Youth Center Christmas Party will take place Friday December 23, 2011 from 6:30 – 9:00PM. This is party is for ALL Youth Center youth (i.e., 6th through 12th grade) and will be held in the Youth Center at St. John’s. There will be games and food and fun!

If you would like to participate in the “White Elephant” gift exchange please bring a gift. It can be something bought, made, or re-gifted.

Also, please bring an ornament to hang on the Youth Center Christmas tree. The ornament can be bought or made and should be something that represents YOU! We will keep these ornaments and add more ornaments each year to create a tree full of memories! We hope to see you there!

Welcome to our new Director of Christian Education!

If you weren’t here this past Sunday you missed the introduction of Brandon Mills, our new Director of Christian Education here at St. John’s! Brandon is better known in some circles as the “Candy King!” but you’ll have to ask our youth who have attended camp at Westminster Woods exactly what that means. We are excited to welcome Brandon aboard and look forward to an exciting new year here at St John’s! If you haven’t had the chance to meet Brandon… next time you see him be sure and say hi!

High School Tutoring Program

Did you know we have an awesome high school tutoring program here at St. John’s? Every Tuesday and Thursday during the school year from 7PM to 9PM you can get help with Science and Math. You can also get help in other subjects upon request. How cool is that! They close up shop and the tutors go home if no one shows up by 7:45PM so make sure you arrive by then.

It’s been almost a month since we posted on the youth blog. It has been a busy, busy month and that’s why. We will be more active with the blogs going forward!

Wednesday We Feed

Tomorrow night (Wednesday, December 7 at 5:30PM) is the Wednesday We Feed pizza dinner and Mission Trip Silent Auction! The youth handed out pizza samples after church this past Sunday in Martin Hall so we are hoping to have a great turn-out! Besides dinner and the silent auction we will be making a MAJOR announcement… We hope to see you there!

The Revolution has Begun!!!

What a weekend! The youth center was hoppin’! Friday night the high school youth painted the high school room, then were “Locked-in” for the night (but not in the room with the fumes)! They spent the night watching movies, eating pizza, and chillaxin… before waking up to Ryan’s World Famous Belgian Waffles smothered in strawberries and whip cream!. A big “THANK YOU!'” to Brooke Dutton and Shonee Hansen for spending the night and enjoying the festivities.

Sunday night I stopped by to check out the Middle School Youth Connection and steal a bowl of Brooke’s chili (which was awesome by the way!) I counted about 15 middle school youth eating dinner and having a great time! After dinner they went upstairs and checked out the changes taking place in the high school room. I overheard them talking about what they want to do with the middle school room. Sounds like there may be a bit of a competition brewing!

A lot of great things are in the works at the Youth Center! Here’s a few of them:

“Advent”ure Night at St John’s – November 20, 2011 at 5:00PM in Martin Hall

Youth Center Christmas Party! – Plans are underway for a Youth Center Christmas party in December. We are thinking about a combined dinner for both middle and high school, followed by a friendly scavenger hunt… before breaking into separate parties for the high school and middle school youth. We’ll bring you more details as they become available.

Sunday Night High School Youth Connection – We are working on plans to get Sunday Night High School Youth Connection up and running. There are some scheduling details to work out but it’s on it’s way! We’ll keep you posted.

St. John’s High School Lock-In is this Friday (Oct 28)!!!

The St. John’s High School Lock-In starts at 3PM this Friday and ends Saturday morning at 10AM. If you are in 9th-12th grade come join us for a ridiculously good time. We will be painting the High School room at 3PM sharp… as part of our efforts to turn it into an awesome “chill” center! Painting will only take a couple hours. This will be followed by an evening of Papa John’s pizza, card games, movies, etc. If you can stay for the night bring your sleeping bag and pillow. If you can’t stay for the night just come for the evening. Saturday morning Ryan will be serving his “World Famous” Belgian waffles to anyone who is awake! See you there!

High School Lock-In!! (October 28-29, 2012)

Come join us for a High School Lock-In at the St John’s Youth Center. All 9th – 12th grade youth are invited to attend and we encourage you to bring your friends! Festivities start Friday at 3PM and will end Saturday morning at 10AM. We will be painting the high school room at 3PM on Friday (which shouldn’t take more then a couple of hours). After painting we will enjoy an evening/night of food, fun, and movies! Come for the evening or stay all night! Bring a sleeping bag and pillow if you’re spending the night of course. It’s going to be a BLAST!

This Months Wednesday We Feed was Awesome!

What an incredible night of pizza and fellowship! We ran out of pizza (that’s how popular it’s becoming!) but everyone had a great time. Our youth made an incredible array of pizza and all the proceeds go towards next summers (2012) church-wide mission trip to San Francisco. It doesn’t get any better then that if you ask me! And if you don’t believe me just check out this video!

Next month they’re going to make even more pizza (they promise they wont run out)! We hope you can join us!

Our youth leaders just returned from the National Youth Workers Conference in San Diego and it's almost rediculous how excited they are to get started implementing all the new ideas they've learned! The conference was fantastic and this year is going to be one of the best ever at St. John's! This blog is being created to introduce you to who we are and to keep you informed of upcoming activities and events for our high school and middle school youth. If you have never been to St. John's we would love to have you come for a visit. All are welcome!
